A delegation from the UNINOVIS academic alliance visited the Dutch Innovation Factory and was briefed on GameLab's activities.
UNINOVIS is a partnership between European universities and universities of applied sciences, founded on the idea that data is the new uranium. It can be used for good or ill. It is present in every aspect of life and brings new challenges for collective security, material and intangible wellbeing, and the health of our democracies. Data is also central to the green and digital transitions, which form Europe's ultimate frontier.
Understanding, analysing, managing, using and securing data requires particular skills: established skills, advanced skills and skills that do not yet exist but must be developed. By declaring 2023 the European Year of Skills, Europe took a strong position in this new economic and social arena.
Beyond skills, this new data-centred world also requires better information and greater public awareness, so that new competences do not remain confined to the walls of universities, classrooms, laboratories or factories. A safer and more inclusive Europe requires broad and deeper knowledge of data: what it means, the risks it entails and the promise it holds.
To meet this challenge successfully, Europe needs skilled educators, infrastructure and tools. More importantly, it needs new transnational actors capable of offering lifelong learning in data science across disciplines and European cultures. That is what UNINOVIS stands for.
