With GameLab, we visited InspiratieLab to take on the DuckieTown Challenge. In this workshop, you programme a small car to navigate a course autonomously. Easier said than done.

DuckieTown is an introduction to IoT (Internet of Things) and programming. The workshop is led by lab professor Wouter Pijnacker Hordijk from The Hague University of Applied Sciences’ InspiratieLab and is based on the DuckieTown project at MIT. You programme using a relatively simple visual programming language, much like Scratch, making it enjoyable even without programming experience.

Anyone who successfully gets the car around the required course can take the rubber duck home. InspiratieLab has a board displaying lap times. I was confident that our talented group could programme the little sensor-equipped car to set the fastest lap. It turned out to be less straightforward.
