Sweetlake Con is a Dutch fair and convention at SilverDome Zoetermeer, focused on collectibles, trading card games (TCG), gaming and pop culture. The latest edition took place during the May school holiday, and GameLab attended to show visitors the game development education available in Zoetermeer.
SweetLakeCon caters to enthusiasts of Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, One Piece, Disney Lorcana, Funko and retro gaming, among other things. This includes many young people who may aspire to a career in game development.
In partnership with the National Videogame Museum and the Municipality of Zoetermeer, THUAS GameLab therefore had a stand at the event. We presented our showcase cabinet containing student-made games. Chris and Amber from DIT Studio, students currently interning at GameLab, were there to answer visitors' questions.
A good sign: our games were popular with the children and young people visiting our stand!
Attending SweetLakeCon was important for GameLab, Zoetermeer and The Hague University of Applied Sciences. It was an excellent opportunity to show what is happening here in game development and interest new talent in the possibilities.
