An enthusiastic group of girls visited GameLab for Girls Day. GameLab student Roberta Galinaityte spoke about her experiences as a woman in game development.

The visiting pupils discovered the versatility of working on games, through Roberta’s background in User Experience Design and the varied backgrounds of other GameLab students in Game Development, Innovative Development and Software Engineering. Roberta offered a glimpse of her project Enso and spoke about pursuing her dream of becoming a game developer as a woman.

Naturally, the girls then had a chance to play games in our Game Room. They enjoyed a fun, informative afternoon, organised to spark their enthusiasm for a future in IT and the creative sector. Afterwards, it was clear this had worked: most of the girls could already picture it. That matters, because IT urgently needs more women.

Jeroen Derwort, GameLab Manager: “By introducing these girls to these study opportunities in an engaging way, we hope to contribute to greater diversity in the technology and creative sectors. We challenge them to discover and realise their potential in these fields.”
