Godot momentum: inspiration and innovation at GodotCon

The Dutch games industry is buzzing, and nowhere has that been more evident over the past few days than at GodotCon. We attended and returned with fresh energy, connections and admiration for the ambition currently visible in the Godot community.

Home-grown talent

The high standard of the showcases immediately stood out. The projects were technically impressive and demonstrated clear artistic vision and ambition. There was also a particularly proud moment for us: Ajoeb Gaasim, an alumnus of THUAS GameLab, was there presenting his own game. It is wonderful to see our former students finding their way in the industry and making their mark at events like this.

The perfect setting

The games were not the only impressive aspect: the setting was excellent too. Sunshine and a fantastic location created a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, making it easy to meet new people and exchange ideas.

Everything ran smoothly, with clear organisation and an approachable feel. That is exactly the atmosphere that makes the community so strong.

Why this matters

Events such as GodotCon are essential to the Dutch ecosystem. They do three important things:

  1. Provide a stage: They give emerging talent the opportunity to show their work to the world.
  2. Strengthen networks: They bring developers, students and professionals together.
  3. Build Godot momentum: They demonstrate that the Godot Engine is a serious, growing force in the Dutch games industry.

Looking ahead: day two

The energy is high, and we are not finished yet! Another strong programme is scheduled for today. We are particularly looking forward to the talk by our colleague Mathijs Koning.

It is a great time to be a Godot developer. We are taking all this knowledge and inspiration back to the Game Basement and GameLab to take our own projects further!
