The H20 Esports Tech Campus in Purmerend is an esports hotspot: a huge stadium for competitions, surrounded by innovative businesses, sport and education.
Jeroen Derwort visited this event venue in Purmerend. The hall was empty, but it was easy to imagine a roaring crowd following fiercely competitive esports tournaments here.
Education, business and government meet here, much like the model at the Dutch Innovation Park. The municipality is actively involved in developing the area. It was interesting to discuss the challenges and opportunities of developing an area such as H20 Campus on Amsterdam's doorstep.
Choosing a clear theme, esports, clustering other themes around it and attracting businesses creates a lively centre with national and international appeal.
The dream is to host world championships for popular games here. The facilities will certainly not be the obstacle.
There is also a retro MSX and VideoPAC collection worth visiting: the largest publicly visitable collection in the world.
