At GameLab , we do more than develop games. Gamification is another important theme. The KibA app by Dr Anke Klein of Leiden University is a good example.

Since September, student Maarten de Bruin has been working on this app, which helps children overcome their fears.

The KibA app is used as a tool for therapists. Therapists put tasks in the app that children can complete on their mobile phones.

The app offers three levels for each exercise. This makes it enjoyable, but research has also shown that it is important for children to make their own choices. Rewards are personalised.

Children can save up for a reward by earning points through the exercises.

From September 2023 to January 2024, student Maarten de Bruin worked within GameLab on developing this app further so it could be used by multiple therapists.
