Five student groups pitched their indie game concepts at GameLab on Monday 10 November, hoping to secure a place in the lab next semester.

During the pitches, students were encouraged to show how far their game had progressed, what their roadmap and scope looked like, and what plans they had for it.

GameLab Manager Jeroen Derwort will assess the pitches with experts Jasper Koning and Maarten Yntema. Bowie Derwort (Game Tailors) and Mathijs Koning (Game Development Coordinator) were also present.

Alongside client-commissioned serious game projects, GameLab has limited space to support students making their own games. The most promising projects are selected: games that can be commercialised and have a realistic enough scope to be released within a reasonable period.

A pitch helps select projects meeting those criteria. Whether or not they secure a place, pitching was already an educational experience for the students.

If they want to enter the industry, giving a strong pitch will also be an important part of their success as indie developers.

The nerves were sometimes noticeable, but they did very well.
