THUAS GameLab students put the pre-alpha of Ranger Commando, developed by Dirk Boer, through its paces.

In Ranger Commando, you take a ranger on missions to shoot as many bad guys as possible, in the style of 1980s video games and films. It bears some resemblance to “Who Dares Wins” and is heavily inspired by that type of game.

You can use machine guns, pistols, flamethrowers, dynamite, TNT and RPGs to take out enemies and rescue prisoners. It has a strong “Expendables” feel.

Testing took place across several platforms: PC, Mac and Steam Deck.

We found a number of bugs during the playtest, which is only natural at this stage of development. We carefully reported them to the developer.

Testing games is valuable because it encourages you to look at a product differently. I am very enthusiastic about this game and think it could be a hit once the teething problems have been resolved.

Ranger Commando is scheduled for release later in 2026. The game can already be wishlisted on Steam.
