GameLab student Rainald Isabella and his team won the EPIC-WE Game Jam at the Museum for Sound & Vision in Hilversum. Team Bird won both the best prototype prize and the "most provocative game" award.
The Game Jam lasted 48 hours, with participants spending the night in the museum. Rainald was the only participant from The Hague University of Applied Sciences, alongside students from other universities and universities of applied sciences.
He reached the top spot with a board game that helps people experiencing depression. In the game, you have an angel and a devil on your shoulders, and your decisions influence which side you listen to most.
Although GameLab mainly works on digital games, physical games use the same principles. The winning game skilfully connected game design principles with a theme relevant to EPIC-WE.
"EPIC-WE is a Horizon Europe-funded project aiming to empower young people to participate in shaping European Culture and their own future by ‘imagining, creating and exchanging cultural values and heritage through game-making’. It focuses on exploring and developing new models for cultural collaboration, empowered participation, cultural processes and design kits for games through and for culture which can help establish culture hubs across Europe."
The concepts were assessed by an expert jury. Our warmest congratulations to Rainald and Team Bird on this wonderful achievement!
