Innovative Development students Guido Osinga and Tom van der Ven have built a new arcade cabinet for GameLab in four days. It will be used to showcase games at events.

GameLab has had a showcase arcade cabinet for some time, and it proves very popular at events, most recently at SweetLakeCon. However, it is relatively difficult to transport. The ID students were therefore asked to design and build a more portable version.

In a short hackathon lasting just 4 days, Guido Osinga and Tom van der Ven solved this challenge for GameLab. They built a bartop arcade cabinet that is both durable and transportable. They worked with wood and a laser cutter in a race against the clock to finish on time. They can be very proud of the result!

A bartop arcade is much smaller than a regular arcade cabinet without entirely losing its charm. It can stand independently on a table or bar, making it much easier to transport than a full-sized cabinet.

Our new cabinet has a screen and still needs a keyboard, mouse and internal PC before it can be used for showcases. We will demonstrate playable games made by The Hague University of Applied Sciences students on it, for example at the upcoming EXPO. As a finishing touch, the cabinet is beautifully painted and prominently displays GameLab's logo. We can be sure it will attract attention.
