On 29 October 2026, Jeroen Derwort visited Fontys ICT in Eindhoven. He mentors Daniël Klaver there as he continues work on the cooperative game CataMiner. Jeroen previously coached other students working on the project. During the visit, Daniël’s progress so far made a strong impression.

A drill to create new tunnel systems

Daniël is expanding CataMiner with a drill that players can use to bore tunnel systems. The accompanying concept illustration shows ideas for the drilling vehicle, the underground world and the cat-like characters.

Cooperation between players is the main focus of Daniël’s work. CataMiner is a co-op game, and its further development explores how teamwork can play a stronger part in the experience. The new drill is a tangible addition as the game continues to take shape.

Playtesting at the DGA Network Lunch

On Wednesday 4 November 2026, Daniël will have players test CataMiner at the DGA Network Lunch. It will offer another opportunity to see how players experience the game and how cooperation works in practice.

This builds on CataMiner’s earlier tests. In September, we reported on playtesting at Onderwijsbeurs Zuid, where Daniël explored how people play together. The upcoming tests will give him another opportunity to observe the game with players and refine it further.

Continuing a shared ambition

Other teammates from the previous semester are still working on the game too. They aim to finish the project and bring it to market.

The earlier student team’s work is continuing with new gameplay possibilities, a focus on cooperation and another playtest ahead. Through GameLab, Jeroen remains involved as a mentor in Daniël’s development and CataMiner’s progress.
