The InnovA58 team attended the AI Meets the Environment symposium with Rijkswaterstaat. Using the viewer being developed at GameLab, they demonstrated how InnovA58’s innovations contribute to ecologically sustainable soil and water systems.

Students Lars Koning and Marloes Joosstens, who work on the project, attended at the invitation of Stan Kerkhofs, the client representative from Rijkswaterstaat. Christian Knaapen of Game Tailors supported the viewer demonstration.

The viewer effectively supported the story Rijkswaterstaat wanted to tell. The audience asked plenty of substantive questions, giving Lars and Marloes a good opportunity to experience the professional field and the impact of their work.

Marloes: “This symposium made me realise that InnovA58 and our work do not exist in isolation. Innovations and similar projects are under way across Europe. The extent of collaboration between organisations from all over Europe was a real eye-opener for me.”

At this stage of the project, Marloes is mainly working on weather effects, while Lars will focus on gamification, interaction and visual design.

The InnovA58 project runs until June 2026, when the viewer will be delivered. Several students will have worked on it in succession. The viewer will be installed in the pavilion beside the A58 so visitors can learn about the area’s innovations.
